2011 First Communion Class
The Tender Fruits of Our Labor In God's Name

Our Mission

Religious Education is the presentation of doctrine and tradition of our Catholic faith.  This presentation seeks to nurture the development of the whole person.  We are committed to assist parents in carrying out their role as primary educators of their children.  We strive to help children establish a personal and loving relationship with Jesus.  We provide challenges and opportunities to integrate Gospel values into their everyday life.

About our Program

Jesus Saviour Church provides primary religious education classes for children in grades 1-8 and Confirmation preparation classes for grades 9-10. All classes are taught by practicing Catholic volunteers. We presently use the "Walking By Faith" text and faith journal from Harcourt Religion Publishers for grades 1-6. In grade 7, we use the Sadlier's "Morality Text", which focuses on the Ten Commandments. For grade 8, we use Sadlier's "Liturgy and Worship: A Course on Prayer and Sacraments." which focuses on the structure of the Mass and the Eucharistic celebration.

For grades 9-10, we have adopted a model that integrates youth ministry and religious education, emphasizing the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The goals of this approach are to meet the Holy Father's challenges to:
1) empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today
2) draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the faith community
3) foster the personal and spiritual growth of each young person.
